Beaded Flip Flops

Take a good look at these beautiful beaded flip flops I bought on a whim at Walgreen's a month ago. I won't be wearing them because they are super uncomfortable! My husband tried to talk me out of getting them, saying they didn't have cushioning under the beads and that it looked like the beads would cut into my feet as I walked. I hate to admit it, but he was right. I wore these across the street to the mailbox one time, and I won't be wearing them again. I love how they look, though!  Still, $9 wasted. :(

I weighed in at 155.6 this morning! I now have two pairs of work pants that fit, yay! I lost 1.4 pounds yesterday. I walked both dogs half a mile, and I walked all over the high school where I substitute taught yesterday. Here is what I ate:

Berry Special K and organic vanilla soy milk
2 toasted slices of wheat bread with 2 tablespoons chunky peanut butter
Raw baby carrots
Tootsie Pop sucker
Salmon patty, Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce
Steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots
1 mini York peppermint patty

148.2 Spokane Christian Songwriter Doug McCleary

We are blessed at Valley View Baptist Church of Spokane in that Christian guitarist, singer, and songwriter Doug McCleary has joined us. Doug played and sang two of his original songs at service this morning and last Sunday morning. He says he has written about a dozen original Christian songs. Here is the video I took of him playing today at Valley View Baptist Church of Spokane, WA.

I spoke with Doug briefly after the service, and here is what I found out:

He won't take any money for playing guitar or singing his songs, but he wants the chance to play and sing as often as people will offer it. He will come sing at any Christian function people invite him to: Bible studies, Sunday worship services, weddings, funerals, you name it. He can cover other artists songs, too, but he will only play or sing songs that glorify God. He can be reached at 509-536-0627. He lives in Spokane, and will play in this area and just over the border in Idaho.

Mostly self-taught, Doug cannot read music. He plays by ear, so a few weeks ahead of when you want him to play, make him a tape of the songs you would like him to play.

Doug had a few ukulele lessons when he was 7 and his family was stationed on Oahu, Hawaii. His dad came home with a guitar, and made Doug and his sisters listen as their dad tried to play the thing. Being a kid, Doug told his dad the truth when asked how it sounded, "Well, I think you need to practice a little more, Dad." Heartbroken, his dad handed over the guitar to Doug, who has been playing it ever since. He is 56 now.

I lost 3.4 pounds yesterday, so it must have been mostly water weight from eating too much salt. There is no way I could have lost 3.4 pounds of fat in one day, I don't think. I did need to lose at least 1.7 pounds because at 151.6 I was over my goal weight of 145 to 149.9. I walked my 1.3 miles. Here is what I ate:

Special K and organic soy milk
Hamburger patty with 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce and steamed broccoli
Salmon patty with Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce and raw baby carrots

148.6 New Dog Aliens 1 Cover!

What do you think of the cover that Scarlett Rugers whipped up for me on a dare! I posted this photo of Raffle in the backpack because I thought the reflectors and his red eyes made him look more like he was from outer space. I painstakingly got rid of the grassy background in the photo. She told me "Well done!" and she was encouraging, but others said this photo would never make a convincing book cover. Less than 30 minutes later, Scarlett posted "Challenge Accepted," along with this cover!

So far, the book is 19 5x8 pages. Guess I had better get busy making it closer to 100 5x8 pages pretty fast if I want it released by the beginning of December!

In case you can't quite tell by the cover, this will be a series called Dog Aliens. This is book 1, the story of how Raffle got his name and came to live with us.

I gained .2 pounds yesterday. I walked a mile twice, first in the morning with both dogs, and later in the evening with just Oreo and with Scott walking Raffle. Here is what I ate:

Small bowl of Special K and organic soy milk
2 slices of wheat toast with 2 tablespoons chunky peanut butter
Chili Dip
2 1/4 cup servings of peanut M&Ms
Salmon patty with 2 tablespoons Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce
Steamed broccoli
1/4 cup peanut M&Ms

148.2 You Can Recompose Photos Now!

This is a recomposed photo of me, Oreo, and Raffle. The original photo is posted below this one, and you can see how I shrunk the photo so that it wasn't so wide and so that my two dogs appear closer to me in the picture. I am amazed how well Photoshop did with shrinking the fence behind me! The shadows are the only place it looks off, to me. I'm sure more experienced eyes will see more off places, though.

Oh, come to think of it, look at the blue leash. Oh well! I just got Photoshop a few days ago.
This is one of my learning pieces!

Raffle was shaking, so it's a wonder the camera caught him as un-blurred as it did. The camera was on top of a cinder-block wall, on a timer.

I lost 1.6 pounds yesterday. I walked my mile with the dogs, for exercise. Here is what I ate:

Special K and organic soy milk
Raw veggies dipped in about a teaspoon of Ranch dressing
Salmon patty with 2 tablespoons Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
Hamburger patty, 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce, steamed broccoli
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

148.4 Raffle Dog

Here's a portrait of my dog Raffle. He is so smart and so eager to please. He knew just what I wanted when I took the camera out to take his photo! He posed so seriously. I think you can see in his eyes that he is an old soul. I think it's cute that his name is showing on his blue tag, too.

This is in an alley near the house we rent. The grass is dry now because it hasn't rained in awhile. Unfortunately, it makes the scene look really Western / cowboy, instead of like the Pacific Northwest. Oh well.

I gained .4 pounds yesterday. I did an hour of gardening at our church in the morning and walked twice, once with both dogs and once with my dog and Scott leading his dog. Here is what I ate:

Small bowl of Special K, blueberries, and organic soy milk
1/4 cup peanut M&Ms
2 El Monterey beef and bean burritos with salsa
Salmon patty with 2 tablespoons Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce
Raw baby carrots
1/4 cup peanut M&Ms
10 corn tortilla chips
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

147.6 Lost 3.2 Pounds Yesterday

I lost 3.2 pounds yesterday, and once again weigh 147.6. This was new weight that I had just gained the day before, so it came off easily. It had not get entrenched itself.

I walked two dogs three times yesterday, a mile each time, at 8 am, 1 pm, and 8 pm. We saw ten squirrels during our 8 am walk, so they were constantly pulling on me with all 120 pounds of their combined weight. It was cooler yesterday, just 85 degrees F, but I still always had a glass of water next to me. I probably drank 3 gallons of water. Here is what I ate:

Small bowl of Special K and organic soy milk

Hamburger patty, 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce, steamed carrots

1 Trident Seafoods Alaskan Salmon Burger,
1 tablespoon Robert Rothschild Farm Roasted Pineapple &
Habanero Sauce,
steamed frozen vegetables

I did get cravings, mostly for treats with flour in them, but I just guzzled water whenever the cravings came. In winter I would have drank hot herb tea with no caffeine in it. My favorite is Good Earth Sweet and Spicy, which is basically cinnamon tea.
